Commission terms
The bit that protects both of us.
Nothing here should surprise you — it’s the same process described everywhere else on this site, written down so there’s no confusion later.
Last updated 9 September 2026
The short version
- A 50% deposit books your slot. The balance is due once you’ve seen the finished painting and before it is shipped.
- You will be updated with progress images
- You need permission to use the photos you send.
- You own the painting. Tayler keeps the copyright and may use it for advertising purposes, unless you ask her not to.
About these terms
These terms apply to commissions made through Pawtraits by Tayler. They form an agreement between you and Tayler once you pay a deposit. Paying a deposit means you accept them.
They’re written in plain English on purpose. If anything is unclear, ask before you pay rather than after.
Booking and deposit
A commission is booked when a 50% deposit is paid. The deposit holds your place in the queue — slots are limited and are allocated in the order deposits are received.
Sending an enquiry does not book a commission, and Tayler may decline any enquiry. Nothing is owed by either of us until a deposit is paid.
Prices and payment
Prices are in Australian dollars and are listed on the home page. The price agreed at booking is the price you pay, even if published prices change afterwards.
The remaining balance is due after you’ve seen a photo of the finished painting and before it is posted. Paintings are not dispatched until payment has cleared.
Your reference photos
By sending photos you confirm that you took them, or you have the photographer’s permission for them to be painted from. Copyright in a photograph belongs to whoever took it — including professional pet photographers.
You’re responsible for having that permission. If a copyright claim is made about a photo you supplied, that’s a matter between you and the photographer.
Your photos are used only to create your commission, and are not shared or published without your agreement.
Progress updates
Progress updates will be sent to you before the final update so you are informed throughout the process
Changes after painting begins
Adjustments to the painting are considered on a case by case basis. Once a painting is underway, substantial changes usually mean starting again on fresh paper, which is charged as a new commission.
Small adjustments are sometimes possible — ask, and Tayler will tell you honestly whether it can be done.
Timeframes
Commissions usually take about four weeks from booking: roughly a week to begin, two to three weeks of painting, then postage. Tayler paints around full-time work, so these are honest estimates rather than guarantees.
If you need a piece by a particular date, say so before you book. Tayler will tell you whether it’s achievable rather than promise and hope. Where a deadline has been agreed in writing and can’t be met, you may cancel and receive a full refund.
Postage and delivery
Tracked postage within Australia is included in the price. Paintings are posted flat.
Overseas postage can usually be arranged and is quoted separately. Any customs duties or import charges are the recipient’s responsibility.
You’re responsible for giving a correct delivery address. If a parcel is returned because the address was wrong or nobody collected it, re-posting is charged at cost.
Damage or loss in transit
If your painting arrives damaged, or doesn’t arrive at all, tell Tayler as soon as you can and keep the packaging. She will work with you to put it right — whether that means a postal claim, a repair where possible, or repainting the piece.
Because these are one-off originals, a repaint takes time. Tayler will be upfront with you about what’s realistic.
Copyright and use of the artwork
You own the physical painting. Tayler retains copyright in the artwork, which is normal for commissioned art.
In practice that means:
- You can hang it, gift it, photograph it and share it on your own social media.
- You can’t reproduce it commercially — prints for sale, merchandise, or use in a business — without Tayler’s written permission.
- Tayler may photograph the finished work and show it in her portfolio, gallery and social media.
If you’d rather your commission wasn’t shown publicly — a surprise gift, for instance — just say so, and it won’t be.
Cancelling a commission
After the first progress is sent: painting has begun and materials and time are committed, so the deposit is not refundable. If you cancel at this point you won’t owe the balance.
Tayler may also cancel — if photos turn out to be unusable, if a deadline can’t be met, or if she can’t complete the work. In that case you receive a full refund of everything you’ve paid.
None of this limits your rights under section 12.
Your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, and nothing here is intended to.
Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Where those guarantees apply, you may be entitled to a remedy — including a refund or replacement for a major failure.
Please also bear in mind that these are hand-painted originals. Small variations from a photograph are the nature of the medium and are not a fault.
Privacy
Tayler collects only what she needs to complete your commission — your name, contact details, delivery address and the photos you send. These aren’t sold or shared with anyone else.
You can ask for a copy of what’s held about you, or ask for it to be deleted, at any time.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. The version that applies to your commission is the one published on the day you paid your deposit, and the date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
